I created this blog to discuss anything and everything that is related to any type of addiction or mental illness. Because in most cases, you do see both diseases together. I wanted to create a free and open addiction blog where people could freely express their concerns about addiction and mental illness. I also wanted to be able to provide some sort of answers to those that are addictedor are suffering from some type of mental illness or both. First, I will give you a small run down of my story. I will includce my story/testimony in depth in the future on this blog. This is a non profit blog. I do everythibg mysyself from phone calls to literature to blog up keep and whatever needs to be done. My life passion is to help anybody who is suffering from addiction or mental illness to know that there really is a solution. Now this is where that I may be different that a lot of people as far as answers go toward addiction or mental illness but so be it. I only beleive in one higher power and that is God and God sent his son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. Jesus rose on the third day so that none of us would have to ever perish but spend eternity with him. I believe 100,000% fully that true Salvation through Jesus Christ is the only way to completely overcome addiction. Period. This is my strong belief and this is my approach that I take when helping others. I have had to drive many many miles across state lines to help a addict in need just to get there and be thrown out because they did not want any type of help that involved Jesus Christ. I am a Christian and I am an ex-addict. Yes I said ex-addict because jesus Christ cleansed my soul and the addiction no longer lives inside of me and has not since 2004.
Going on 10 years now. I do not veer off of my beliefs. Like I said, I will walk to the ends of the earth for someone who is trying to get better and I will share the truth with them. I will share the solution with thim. OK, now a little bit about my story. I was an alcoholic/drug addict for about 20 solid years everyday. I came from a very good family. A devout Christian family. But I chose my own road. Over that time, I was in multiple body injuring car wrecks. I had been shot. I had been stabbed numerous times. I had been i know over 100 fights. I had been in jail over and over and over again for alcohol and drug related offenses. In 2005 I went to New orleans after hurricaine Katrina looking for work. This would be my bottom. I saw more dead bodies than any other human should have seen. I was robbed at gun point but the best part is that even though I was homeless with no place to sleep. broke because of the drug use. Hadnt slept in 2 weeks because of the drug use. Somebody prayed the spirit of God down on me. I know that it was my mother. You know that Part in the bible where it says that no man cometh unto the father unless the spirit draws them. I always wondered what that meant until that day. The spirit of the Lord fell on me. I hitched a ride to Pascagoula, MS and checked myself into rehab. That was in 2005 and by the grace of God I have been 100% clean and sober ever since and have never looked back. So do not tell me that Jesus Christ is not the answer because he is the only answer and the only solution. You can find more of my testimony on this blog in the near future.
OK, lets get into what my mission is here and what I hope to accomplish. First and foremost is to bring those with addiction and mental problems to the one true answer. Jesus Christ.
- If the addict is in bad shape, he or she must go to a hospital to be checked out and or detoxed.
- I offer a phone ministry.
- I offer a chat ministry.
- I offer a house call ministry.
- I help in finding the addict gainful employment once the person has been fully detoxed and fully evaluated for mental illness.
- Once the person has been clean and sober for sometime, we start to incorporate more bible study.
- I minister to the addicts strictly about jesus Christ. The grace of God. The mercy of God but at the same time the wrath of God.
- I will drive pretty much anywhere to help an alcoholic or drug addict out.
- I will sponsor an addict as long as they show some desire of wanting to get sober.
- Once the addict is in the right mind set, I along with other men will lay hands on the person and ask God to pleases draw this person near to him and remove this horrific disease.
- We will continously pray for all addicts and people with mental illness.
- I will supply clothes out of my own pocket.
- I will supply food for the person out of my own pocket unless there is another resource.
- I will also supply all literature related to drugs and alcoholism and mental illness.
- I will also supply all bibles.
My main goal (Hopefully wiith the help of others) is to see these men go from the streets to fully functioning community members. But I know to well that this can only be done first by a supernatural act of God in that persons life.
Once I committ to a addict or a person with a mental disease, I committ all the way to the end. This includes hospital care if needed for detox or mental illness. Continuous ministering about complete sobriety for life through the one true solution-Jesus Christ.
I will also see that they have the proper clothing along with some sort of housing whether it be inpatient such as a group home or whatever. I will see to the persons nutritional status at all times. I will be with each person until God does such a work in their life that the supernatural effect of God has now gotten them sober for life.
I also do follow up with all of the addicts and people with other disabilities long after they have gotten sober. OK, lets break it down so you can see exactly how the process works.
Make contact with the Addict or the person with a mental illness (Sometimes they are referred to me)
Have the person checked out by a doctor in case of withdrawl or depression or other mental illness.
Once the person is stable, we work on getting the person clothes and housing in anyway we can. Food allowance also comes with that.
Once the person is stable and before they go to work, we go through a rigorous classroom study for a couple of weeks. We study on how that Jesus Christ is the only solution to addiction and that only Jesus Christ can keep us sober. We also study on coping skills, everyday living, mental illness and finances. But the biggest part of our study focus is our prayer time. Our prayer time is very serious and is 100% dedicated to the addict or person with mental illness. We do not stop the study courses and prayer sessions until we feel secure that God has or is doing a work in this persons life.
We also believe in exercise to keep the body healthy. Especially after years of alcoholism and drug abuse. Your body is run down and needs to be fixed back up. A healthy body combined with a healthy soul can take on the world!!! I like to stay in contact with each individual even after they have left just to keep a check on them
The bottom line is that my ministry is to be a God first, God driven ministry for those who have no hope and for those who gave nothing else or anybody else. If we do not do it then nobody else will. You know, most all addicts or alcoholics didnt just wake up one morning and decide that Im going to become a drunk today or Im going to become a drug addict today. It is generally brought on by a tragic event, hanging around the wrong people or curosity. I tell my young people this all the time, you will never know if you are a drug addict or a alcoholic until you take that first drfug or that first drink. So, I then tell them, dont take that first drug or that dirst drink and you can prevent a lifetime of heartache.
